Mobility and elasticity of the joints

Mobility and elasticity of the joints

Preface

Many people complain of their “joint laxity”, of having their joints creaking or of how quickly they tire when walking.
Connective tissue is the main tissue component of the organism.

It keeps the organs and numerous bones of the body together, anchoring them firmly to their respective positions. The connective tissue includes, for example, ligaments, tendons, cartilages and joint capsules, skin and hair.

The connective tissue

The connective tissue is made up of fibers and intercellular substance, mostly formed by GAG (glycosaminoglycans). Its function is to act as intercellular cement, to allow the body to resist traction and pressure.

It is precisely the glycosaminoglycans that give the connective tissue its elasticity, as well as ensuring the transport of nutrients and the disposal of waste.

The characteristics of the connective tissue change throughout life and with sport. Intercellular cement decreases, as does the percentage of water and nutrients.

Deterioration

The composition of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) also changes over time. This can lead to a loss of joint elasticity, but also to unpleasant joint problems. Joint diseases, such as rheumatism, arthrosis and arthritis, are particularly painful. People affected by it lose mobility in whole or in part, with inevitable repercussions on the quality of life.

The health of the connective tissue is fundamental! Our diet is often deficient in glycosaminoglycans. To maintain the vitality of the joints, it is therefore recommended to regularly take food supplements rich in GAG.

Revive with supplements

According to numerous clinical studies, some supplements rich in these substances and containing an extract of Perna canaliculus (the green mussel from New Zealand), have given good results in the treatment of joint diseases.

The Perna canaliculus extract is an extraordinary natural source of nutrients and organic constituents of marine origin. It is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, contains 18 important amino acids, 10 minerals, trace elements and enzymes and can be taken regularly, even for several months.

      1. Pilates allows to improve joint mobility, flexibility and muscle elasticity because it works on all three components by stimulating all the tissues of the human body to move smoothly.

          1. I have noticed that on many occasions my right leg (where I had an accident more than 30 years ago resulting in surgery) makes a noise like a rub or as if there was friction between the ligaments

            1. It also happens to me as above (I also had a motorcycle accident more than ten years ago). I visited my doctor who then had me checked by an orthopedic specialist who then explained to me that joint noises (crackles), such as pops and squeaks, are the result of an abnormal rubbing of the joint bone heads inside the joints.

              1. Often, other symptoms such as swelling or joint pain, redness and heat sensation of the skin of the affected area, difficulty in moving the joint and stiffness of the joint, especially in the early hours of the day, can be associated with the noise generated by rubbing in the joint.

                1. Joint noises can be caused by various other joint and tendon pathologies as well as the ones describe here.

  1. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative alteration affecting one or more joints, characterized by progressive lesions of the articular cartilage and of the underlying bone, which causes a variable degree of functional limitation and has a negative impact on the quality of life.

    1. The cartilage allows the sliding between the two articular heads and, when worn until it disappears, there is a friction of the bones between them during the movement and this can cause structural damage to the joint bone heads.

      1. Aside from osteoarthritis, I’m sure I don’t have it because I’m just 32 and my doctor rules it out. Are there other pathologies that create joint pain and discomfort that come and go?

        1. I always have problems with my right arm (elbow and wrist) with the change of season. I have had this problem for years and the only way to solve it has been acupuncture.

          1. Even the so-called “tendinitis” can cause disturbances with pains even quite acute. The tendons are the structures that connect the muscles to the skeletal levers, indispensable for movement and posture; they mainly consist of collagen.
