Achieving Mind and Body Wellness Through Alternative Modalities

When we are faced with health concerns and decide to “Google” alternative medicine to help ourselves, it is easy to learn more about herbs, vitamins, various supplements or dietary and lifestyle changes. These are incredibly powerful, and as we work to make our body healthier, a healthier body inevitably leads to a healthier mind.

We often forget that it is also possible to find tools to impact our mind and thus lead to improvements in physical symptoms. This then begs the question: which interventions do we have that allow us to directly work with the mental-emotional plane? This is not a small question. Indeed, many traditional systems of medicine have recognized, via millennia of empirical observation, that chronic illness stems from the vibrational plane. In other words, illness starts in our vibrational field – and only once it has been present for long enough, distorting our vibrational field, can it gradually lead to bodily changes. In other words, it is through the power of the mind and our subconscious belief systems that we modify our biochemistry. For instance, chronic worry would lead us to produce large amounts of the stress hormones adrenalin and cortisol. Those “molecules of emotions” then have very concrete physical effects in the body such as creating inflammation, raising blood pressure and cholesterol and affecting blood sugar levels. As such, we can see how the cascade:

 Mind – Emotions – Body
Is more than just an abstract concept.

Well-known modern authors such as medical intuitive Louise Hay have popularized this concept but also oversimplified it in the process. Deciphering the deeper meaning of our body symptoms occurs through much self-introspection and that is best done with the help of a practitioner trained in mind-body medicine. Indeed, such a practitioner is able, through active listening and benevolent presence, to provide a “mirror” for the patient to examine himself, his/her biases and belief systems thoroughly. Without the practitioner, we tend to stay stuck in our own biased way of thinking thereby perpetuating the problem.

Alternative modalities that directly affect our being on the vibrational plane – and therefore tackle the root cause of our physical concerns – are many. Holistic counseling is perhaps the easiest one in that it only involves talking with a trained psychotherapist. Through careful questioning, the practitioner helps the patient realize the nature of the faulty belief systems at the root of their illness. The patient is rewarded by tremendous insights which are more than on the mental level. The patient gets to experience the insight in a real “aha” moment that is not just intellectual, but that can be felt on the sensation level and is typically deeply transforming. Other modalities that bypass the patient’s intellect completely to directly impact the vibrational patterns we are emitting are homeopathy, bioresonance therapy, mindful meditation, reiki, craniosacral therapy and acupuncture – to name just a few. With these tools, the practitioner learns more about the vibrational distortion that is at the nature of illness and attempts to correct it.

In this manner, illness becomes not just a nuisance that must be eliminated but a real enabler of self-growth. It forces us to examine ourselves and our belief systems honestly and consider change. It puts us face to face with our distorted, untrue, limiting thought patterns and asks us directly “do you want to continue suffering like that?”. We are then free to choose whether to stay in the loop of our damaging mental-emotional patters or to do the work and actively change. This change must come from a deep place that is not just intellectual – it must be experienced on all levels of our being. Modalities such as homeopathy and the like are tools to help us achieve that total health on all planes – physical, mental and emotional. They give a space for deep spiritual transformation, offering us what modern medicine is unable to provide us and making the alliance between conventional acute medical treatments and alternative medicine that much more powerful.
