Maintaining a healthy weight and staying active are both essential

This article is based on a series of “tips-advice” designed to assist you in maintaining a healthy weight in a manner that is beneficial to both your body and your mind.

Maintaining a healthy weight and staying active are both essential

The majority of responsibility for your weight lies with you. It is not necessary to weigh oneself every day; however, doing so approximately once a month while paying attention to any variations is sufficient.

You are in control of your weight

In the event that you are either underweight or overweight, you should talk to your doctor so that he/she can evaluate your current state of health, conduct diagnostic tests, and provide you with appropriate recommendations.

Make it a goal to maintain a weight that is within normal limits or to gradually bring it back to normal, if necessary with the assistance of professionals who have the appropriate level of experience in nutrition monitoring your progress.

Less energy inputs and more activity

If you are overweight, you should decrease your energy “inputs” by eating less and opting for foods that are lower in calories but leave you feeling fuller for longer, like fruits and vegetables; in contrast, you should increase your energy “outputs” by engaging in more activities that require you to move around more. Maintain a healthy diet by evenly distributing your meals throughout the day, beginning with breakfast, which must not be skipped.

Keep active and do not overdo on diets

Walk, use the stairs, do some light housework, and the like are all great ways to incorporate more movement into your daily routine. Steer clear of extremely stringent diets of the “do-it-yourself” variety, such as those based on meal replacements or prolonged fasting and semi-fasting, which, if followed for extended periods of time, can be harmful to your health.

These types of diets are almost always unbalanced as a nutrient intake (for example, single-food diets and diets almost entirely based on protein), and they can also be excessively strict. A healthy diet for losing weight should always include all types of food in the most well-balanced manner possible.

Lean mass is your aim

If you need to lose weight, rather than fixating on the number of pounds that appear on the scale, make your primary objective the reduction of the amount of fat mass in favor of the increase in the amount of lean mass. You need to be very careful during the adolescent period about the possible emergence of extreme eating behaviors or even trends such as veganism or other drastic, self-managed weight-loss regimens.

These types of weight loss regimens frequently have as their goal the attainment of excessively small weights in relation to physical structure. You need to be very careful about this. An unhealthy preoccupation with one’s weight is a potential warning sign that must not be ignored.

Peculiar eating behaviors

Be wary of peculiar eating behaviors and/or exaggerated and manic attitudes regarding fitness and exercise for male adolescents as well: in point of fact, eating disorders are present in other forms in boys and adult men, despite the fact that they are more prevalent in the female population.

In the case of eating disorders, regaining one’s normal weight does not signify that the disorder has been cured even if it was treated successfully. This is unquestionably a successful and significant accomplishment, but it is important to remember that further steps are required, and it is in your best interest to continue adhering to the guidance of an expert.
