True Warrior Mindset – Part 3 – The Warriors and Goals

The idea is to have something bigger than oneself — something worth fighting for. This single-mindedness was crucial to the mentality of all of history’s greatest warriors, albeit it took a different form in each of them.
You have your samurai and your knights in the past. The training of a samurai went to considerable lengths to ensure their allegiance to a’shogun’ (a master samurai). They would die for their shogun, just as a monarch’s knight would die for his king and kingdom.
Today, though, this is a harmful way of thinking. We’re all aware that our politicians are flawed, and we’ve witnessed firsthand how blindly supporting a leader or a set of ideals can lead to horrific crimes. As a result, we must instead develop our own set of values and beliefs.
There are rules to follow and a goal or vision to strive for. This is subject to change, but we must never allow others to force us to break our code. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as an objectively “right” approach to life.
We have no idea why reality exists, what awaits us on the other side (if anything), or what life’s significance is. As a result, it is up to each of us to chart our own course by evaluating our own values, ideals, and guiding principles.
Determining Your Objective
So, let’s begin by setting a goal for ourselves, something bigger than ourselves to strive for. You will play a role in achieving this goal.
As a result, it’s possible that you set out to change the world for the better. Maybe you want to help stop world hunger, or maybe you want to help slow down global warming, or maybe you want to be a rock star or musician. Maybe all you want to do is get rich.
There is no such thing as a “bad” objective; it is simply having a goal and something to be passionate about that will provide you with the fuel and motivation to keep going no matter what. Visions are the starting point for goals. So, for the time being, imagine how you want your life to be in 5 or 10 years. Consider your current location, your surroundings, who you’re with, and what you’ve accomplished.
This should be a vision that energizes and excites you — your ideal life. Consider the times in your life when you were happiest, what you aspired to be as a youngster, and some of your role models and what you may learn from them for inspiration.
This is the image you’ll use to motivate yourself to improve and achieve greatness. This is what will motivate you to get out of bed each morning. Then, on top of that, you’ll set goals for yourself — smaller, more measurable actions that will lead you to your destination.
