When the knee pain calls

When the knee pain callsThe most common causes for knee pain are usually related to aging, over-exertion, injury or repetitive stress on the knee joint. Common knee ailments include torn or sprained cartilage, tendinitis and bursitis. Differentiating between these conditions is very difficult due to the similarities in symptoms. Bursitis is a very common condition that causes an inflammation and swelling of the bursa, which is a lubricant that keeps the joints cushioned. Diagnosing a knee problem or injury involves a comprehensive medical examination and typically the use of an x-ray, MRI, CT or arthroscope.

It is wise that you make regular appointments with your doctor. A health history will allow your doctor to determine whether there is a history of problems such as tendonitis in your family. A thorough exam, examination and test of your knee will help to determine the cause of symptoms. Tests will also reveal any underlying structural or physiological problems besides pain.

In addition to pain behind the knee, you may experience other symptoms such as swelling, instability and clicking. This is due to the instability of the structure of the joint and its responsiveness to various activities. Sprains and strains are common causes for instability because they involve direct damage to the bones and surrounding tissues. Most sports injuries can also result in inflammation and a loss of motion along with pain behind knee.
